Some Facts about Skin Cancer

Hi all, we hope your Wednesday is going well!  We are going to switch things up and try something new today.  We typically like to talk about Cosmetic lasers and procedures but today we are going to talk about the different types of skin cancer.

Regardless if the sun is shining, if it’s raining or windy, the sun is still giving off harmful rays which means if you aren’t wearing sun screen, you could be putting your skin at risk.  Did you know that Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States.  More than 3.5 million skin cancers in over two million people are diagnosed annually.  Each year there are more new cases of skin cancer than the combined incidence of cancers of the breast, prostate, lung and colon.

No one is immune from getting skin cancer which is why everywhere you go, you might hear people saying “did you put your sunscreen on?”.  No matter what you think, no one is trying to nag you, they just want to make sure you are protected.  We have patients in our office every single day with biopsy results saying positive for skin cancer.  Obviously there are different types of skin cancer, but regardless you don’t want any of them.  People get scared when they hear that and you can’t blame them.  Here at Natural Image OC, we have about 10 different types of sunscreen and we tell every patient they need to where it daily, regardless if they purchase ours or purchase it at Target.

The proper way to wear sunscreen is to put it on after your serums, moisturizers and whatever else you may wear, right before you put on your foundation.  The reason is because sunscreen is thicker/heavier and if you put it on first, your serums and moisturizers will not be able to do their jobs.

Hopefully this has made you think twice about going outside without applying sunscreen!! 🙂
